Debora & Andrew kayak, Poolewe

Debora & Andrew moved to little loch Broom last year and have been keen to learn a bit more about sea kayaking and try it out. We had a session were we spent plenty of time chatting about kit and safety stuff as well as getting out and learning paddling skills.

Mikaela & Co kayak, Poolewe

Mikaela, Vicky, Bobby, Ashley, Matt and Nicolle joined me for a lively morning kayaking. The water was very still and calm, the same can’t be said for the the group! A very lively session with a lot of splashing into the water!

Wilson kayak, Poolewe

Toby, Anna, Arthur, Fred, Evie and Annabelle all met me for a fun afternoon of kayaking. The weather forecast had predicted some lightening but we decided to go ahead with the plan of hopping off the water for shelter if it arrived. As predicted it arrived and we sheltered off the water with a nice brew before jumping back on for more fun.

Lyndsay & Darren kayak, Poolewe

Lyndsay and Darren tried booking me last year but like a lot of people they left it too late – this year they planned ahead properly and managed to get a slot before I was fully booked up. We had super calm water to explore the coastline around Inverewe Garden.

Robinson Goodrum canoe, Poolewe

John, Anne, Steve and Morven came canoeing with me from Poolewe. John has done quite a bit of canoeing in the past and wanted to have a trip out with the rest of them whist up here. They’d been out paddleboarding the day before with Charlie from ClimbRideExplore, so had already started getting used to paddling skills.

Lai kayak, Poolewe

Tim, Jenni, Cara and Giles met me for some kayaking at Poolewe. They’re staying at the Gate Lodge at Inverewe, so it felt right to be paddling around the shore at Inverewe to see the garden from a different perspective.

Louise & Co kayak, Mellon Charles

Louise, Kerry, Emma and Sam joined me to explore the craggy coastline around Mellon Charles. We had a great paddle, spotting porpoise in the distance. Towards the end of the session my phone went off with a mountain rescue callout so a swift paddle back and a race off for me.

Clarkson kayak, Poolewe

Christine, Lily and Wilf met me for some fun kayaking in Poolewe. As we explored the craggy coastline around Inverewe Garden we learnt some skills, played some games and spotted wildlife.

Wilson Miller kayak, Poolewe

Damien and Kirstin joined me in Poolewe. Damien had been out with me back in 2018, paddling over in Gairloch. It was a good morning exploring the coastline at Poolewe around Inverewe garden.

Masterson Tobin kayak, Gairloch

Kat, Jon, Callum and Euan came out with me last year, this year they dragged along Cathy, Declan, Iarlaith and Ruadhan to help celebrate Callum’s 9th birthday with me. A fun session in the sunshine was had by all. Since it was Callum’s birthday I thought a good way to celebrate it was to leave him on a tiny island – apparently it’s against kids rights to leave them on slightly submerged islands for any real length of time, so we collected him again.

Greig kayak, Gairloch

Kyle, Gillion and Colin joined me to explore the coastline in kayaks. They chose the sea kayaks and we set off to learn some skills and see what wildlife we could spot on our journey. Initially the water was mirror like and we could easily gaze down though the water at starfish, urchins and jellyfish below us.

Duffield McLeod kayak, Gairloch

Sarah, Toby, Archie, Euan, Colin and Elsie came kayaking with me. It’s pretty common for teenage lads to want to splash about, Archie and Euan were no exception. Always amusing when they think it’s sensible to splash me!

Fay kayak, Gairloch

Henry, Jenny, Reuben and Libby met me for a fun morning paddling. Jenny and Libby teamed up on a double kayak whilst Reuben went for one of my great small person boats and Henry opted for a sea kayak.

Poulston kayak, Poolewe

Paul, Stephen, Lorcan, Bronagh and Fiachra joined me for an afternoon of kayaking. We started off trying to stay dry but Lorcan got a little enthusiastic early on and went for a swim. Later on, near the end, Lorcan and Fiachra spent a lot of time falling in! Bronagh was far more sensible and kept upright in her kayak.

Paxman kayak, Poolewe

Rachael, Ben, Heidi and Evie met me for a fun morning kayaking. Plenty of games and splashing about meant there were some quite wet people by the end of the morning despite not falling in!
